I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Toto. I hope that you and Jasper find comfort in one another and in what life still has to offer. Sometimes the places where we find peace are a pleasant surprise.

The other day, while filling the bird feeders, I found a bit of comfort as I walked the path where Kringle finally laid to rest. This path is the main artery for foot traffic in our yard and I use it almost daily. While stepping over the flagstone where his body breathed its last breath, I wondered if my boy didn't lay to rest there on purpose to ensure that our paths often cross - because they do and always will.

Reading this post echoes so much I have felt about my beloved (16 year old) Toto, lost to cancer a month ago tomorrow. Life goes on but there is a still, quiet space now where there was previously a serene, purring presence. Since he's been gone, my energy has been spent trying to keep his little brother Jasper (only 2) from laying down and giving up - looking back it feels like I lost him a century ago and only yesterday.
