WHAT’S A R.O.A.R. SQUAD
R.O.A.R. stands for Rescue Owners Are Rockin and this Squad is being assembled by Shauna Stewart from Fido and Wino, a blog where fine dogs (and fine wine) are very much appreciated. “Our goal is to make having a rescue animal THE coolest thing around. Ya game? Perfect! We’d love to have you!”
WHY THE R.O.A.R. SQUAD?
Shauna’s inspiration for this project stems from the love she has for her own rescue dog, the lovely Miss Kayloo, as well as her deep concern for the 6-8 million animals housed in US shelters every year, as estimated by the US Humane Society.
I want US to put puppy mills out of business.
HOW IT BEGAN
On April 16th, a movement called Be the Change with a focus on animal welfare spread throughout the blogosphere. It was inspired by several folks at the Ohio BlogPaws convention earlier that month which lit a fire in the belly of those who advocate for animals across the world. Shauna, a Canadian, immediately got on board with her big idea. For more about how and why she did, read the blog post that launched the R.O.A.R. Squad.
THE ONE YEAR PLAN
Over the next year, Fido & Wino will feature:
- at least one rescue owner from every state in the US
- at least one rescue owner from every province and territory in Canada
- at least one rescue owner who is from the “Super Wicked Peeps” list which includes authors, lawyers, founders of rescue groups and others from all walks of life.
This list is already growing by the day. I doubt it’s even going to take a year!
