Over the past 6 months, I’ve burned the candle at both ends. Working twelve hour days on multiple projects and jumping from New York to Denver to Vegas, I was caught up in a whirlwind of exciting new experiences I thought mattered most.
At the same time, a rash of people I loved passed on. People I care about deeply are grieving – deeply. I witnessed a fantastic celebration of marriage and, while on the dance floor, I fell even more in love with my husband. People I love dearly are loving – dearly. It was time to drop the projects long enough to partake in this one wild, beautiful and mysterious life, for better and worse.
I recently watched a TEDTalk called “Keep Going Until We Stop” by Scott Stratten. It rang crystal clear. Do yourself a favor. Watch.
It’s time to stop, to be there, to spend time, and to appreciate the smallest gems in life – like these cats spend time finding 37 ways to love bubble wrap. Take note and, most of all, enjoy!
so cute! i'm sorry you have been having a tough time……wonderful you can still see wonder in the small things 🙂
Thanks for your kind words. I'm not having a tough time so much as having been struck by the reminder that our opportunities are finite. We have to grab them while they are in front of us because tomorrow they'll be gone. Those small things are truly all that matter. So let's go get 'em!
That's a great talk by Scott Stratten. As we prepare to sell our cottage, I'm trying to stop and enjoy the days that I have here. There is so much to do, but I'll regret it later if I just keep going and don't take time to play in the leaves with the dogs and be awed by the starry skies with Rod.
Good for you, Amy! So many of us envy the life you and Rod lead, a life of adventure out on the road exploring the country. Having known you for some time now, I am also acutely aware of how much pressure is upon you to constantly move on, to provide quality content, to grow your business. One thing I've always admired about the way you and Rod work is the way you both recognize when enough is enough and you take time to enjoy each other. Kudos, my friend, and cheers to the next chapter in your lives!
Kim – I LOVE your cats! They always make everything look fun!
It's so true, Mel! They are often my inspiration to stop, look and listen – often as something they've infiltrated crashes to the floor.
Now I need to find some bubble wrap!
Just order something fun for yourself and have it shipped. That way the contents of the box are twice as nice!
I watched Stratten's talk again last night for the 6th time. How I missed the contrary juxtaposition of my cats' enjoyment of bubble wrap and him leaving a position in which he trained people around North America to sell bubble wrap, I'll never know. I'm sure I could spin some interesting correlation here but my dogs are calling. They don't care about Titter, Tweezer, Blogging, FaceSpace, MyBook or whatever … so I'm going to go play with them.
Sorry to read of people in your life that have passed on. And thanks for reminder to stop and be grateful for simple things in life. BEST!
Bubble wrap!! Wow, that sounds like fun. Mom? We need some bubble wrap here…..
Hi Y'all!
Just hopped by to see what y'all are up to this week. Bubble wrap…hmmm…we have bubble wrap…but my Human Momma is always playin' with it! Does that mean she's really a cat? hmmm…
So sorry to hear about the sorrows with y'alls family and friends. My Humans have faced a lot of that lately…it makes them sad. 🙁
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
I'm so sorry for your recent losses. That's tough. It's a good thing our pets are so good at distracting us.
Thank you for sharing these thoughts. It's during the difficult times that these things are most important but hardest to remember.
Thank you for sharing that link- I am so very sorry for your loss.
